Hazelwood College 6-8
Scoil Phobail Beara 3-12
Well done to Hazelwood College U15 footballers who got through the first round of the Munster Schools’Competition, when they beat Scoil Phobail Beara on Friday last, with a final score of 6-8 to 3-12. Beara had a great start to the game, with a goal in the opening minutes of the game. Hazelwood couldn’t get a hold of the ball, but once they did they played it up to Ben O’ Connor who got the second goal of the match. From there on, it was a close game up until half time. Hazelwood made two subs at half time that changed the game around. Hazelwood came out in the second half more determined as sub Cillian Cahill got two quick goals. Beara fell behind in the next couple of minutes. As Hazelwood took a great lead, they relaxed and Beara caught up. With twenty minutes to go, Conor Shanahan gave away a disappointing penalty. As the Beara full forward placed the ball towards the bottom left corner of the goal, Eoin Finn stretched across the goal, getting his fingertips to the ball, but his efforts were just not enough. With ten minutes to go Beara took a six point lead. Hazelwood made a tactical switch by putting TJ Kelly in full forward, they took back the lead when TJ got a goal. This raised the heads of his teammates to finish the match on a high.
Scorers: Ben O’ Connor (2-2), Kieran o’ Flynn (1-3), Colm Ryan (0-2), Cillian Cahill (2-1), TJ Kelley (1-0)
