Recently the Hazelwood College Senior Camogie team took to the pitch against Secondary School Clonakilty at Castle Road Camogie Grounds, Cork.
Hazelwood started with determination and three minutes into the first half Aisling Cunningham scored the opening point for Hazelwood. Sacred Heart quickly recovered with a long range point. Clonakilty took advantage of the bad puck out of Hazelwood and easily tapped it over the bar. Hazelwood conceded a free from a Hazelwood 65, when Tara Fitzgibbon hit into Laura Stack’s who quickly tapped over the crossbar in the seventh minute of the game. Clonakilty took a quick puck out which was caught by Laura Stack who took her second point in the game. Aisling Cunningham got a goal from the rebound of Laura Stack in the tenth minute of the first half. After a bad puck out from the Cork side, Chloe O’ Brien regained possession, which she passed off to Aoife McMahon to get her first point of the game. Hazelwood kept on scoring, thanks to the accuracy of Chloe O’Brien, Íde Cunningham and Elanna Mulchay. Clonakilty scored another point from a 65 just before the half time whistle, which left the score at Hazelwood 1-8 to Clonakilty 0-3.
In the second half, Hazelwood started the half off with heart and determination wanting to win. They quickly took off, getting scores off their main scorers, Laura Stack, Bríd Flanagan and Chloe O’Brien. Clonakilty conceded a goal coming from their skilled half forward. Hazelwood fought on, as Katie Carroll got a cracker of a goal during half way through the second half. Clonakilty quickly fought back to get their second goal. There was no looking back for Hazelwood as they secured four more points from Íde Cunningham, Bríd Flanagan, Elanna Mulchay and Katie Carroll.
The score finished Hazelwood College 2-17, to Sacred Heart, Clonakilty 2-3. This was enough to secure Hazelwood their place playing in the Munster Senior Camogie Final.
