Hazelwood College First Year Hurling Teams continue Winning Streak
Following the large number of first years enrolled in the school there are now two first year hurling teams competing in this years competition. Both teams have got their campaigns off to a winning start with wins over Charleville CBS, Desmond College NCW and Croom.
The first match this week saw Hazelwood College A line out against Desmond College Newcastlewest. Hazelwood College came out deserved winners on an impressive scoreline of 9-17 to Desmonds 1-1. Desmond College got off to the better start and scored a goal within a few minutes of the start. However Hazelwood were quick to settle following this early set back. Kevin Coughlan opened the scoring for the Dromcollogher side, this was followed up with four great points and then a cracking goal from Ciaran Collins. Hazelwood continued to cause problems for the Desmond defense and by the half time whistle the score was Hazelwood 6-6 to Desmonds 1-1.
The second half was more of the same with Hazelwood driving home some great scores and Desmond struggling to keep the opposition at bay. Desmond College failed to score in the second half.
The final score was Hazelwood College 9-17 to Desmond Colleges 1-1.
Scores for Hazelwood were by, John O Gorman, Ciaran Mossissey, Darren Mulcahy, Kieth Lacey, Ciaran Collins, Michael Lenihan, Kevin Coughlan and Gearoid Sexton.
The following day saw Hazelwood B line out against Croom in desperate conditions with strong wind and heavy rain making things difficult for both sides. Hazelwood answered this with a goal and a point of their own. The half time score was Hazelwood 1-1 to Crooms 0-3. The second half saw a determined Hazelwood side put their mark on the game. Hazelwood College Hurlers Annihilate Charleville CBS
Hazelwood College: 4:16
Charleville CBS : 1:1
On Thursday last the first year hurlers from Hazelwood College, Dromcollogher met near neighbours Charleville CBS in the first round of the Championship. Charleville proved no match for the determined Hazelwood side who were eager to repeat last years Munster Final success.

Charleville fought back with a goal. Hazelwoods Michael Nolan quickly put a stop to the Charleville advance and scored a great goal to put Hazelwood back into the driving seat. At the half- time whistle Hazelwood were up 1:3 to 1 goal.
The second half opened with Charleville scoring a point before Hazelwood set their minds to the task at hand. Kieth Lacey added to the Hazelwood scoresheet with two points from well taken frees and a further point from play. By the mid-point of the second half the Dromcollogher side were in command of the game. Further scores from Kevin Coughlan, Keith Lacey, Michael Nolan, Barry Breslin and John Barrett sealed the victory.
