Hazelwood College 6-6

Pres. Tralee 1-7

This game was played in Dromcollogher last week and was a much closer affair than the scoreline suggests. Tralee got off to a flying start and were leading by four points before Siobhan Enright goaled. She followed this with a point from a 20 meter free but Tralee kept pressing the Hazelwood goalmouth for the next ten minutes scoring a goal and three points. Hazelwood responded with further goals from Loretta Hanly and Siobhan Enright (free). Ciara Meaney finished the first half scoring with a point from 35 meters out.

In the second half Hazelwood got on top and proved stronger over the half hour. Goals from Emma Browne, Sarah Moloney and Siobhan Enright and points from Emma Browne (2), Helen Bradley and Zoe O’Connell killed off the Kerry girls challenge. The final score was 6-6 to 2-7. Hazelwood College………………………………………………6-8

Cahir…………………………………………………………….1-2

Hazelwood College Camogie team got off to an exceptional start last Friday in the Munster Intermediate Championship beating a tough Cahir side. The opening ten minutes saw attack after attack on the Cahir defence and resulted in a lead of 2-2. The mid field pairing of Niamh Cagney and Tara Hurley were majestic! All fifteen players hurled extremely well throughout the entire 60 minutes. All forwards took each of the scoring opportunities given. Máire Flanagan being the thorn in the Cahir defence scoring 3 goals in fifteen minutes. Joanne Murray, Niamh O Brien were in “thou shall not pass” form and chased every ball until it was cleared. The full back line allowed our goal keeper a reasonably quiet day, giving huge relief with their long clearances. This was a great opening game of Camogie for Hazelwood College. We wish them the best of luck in the next round against Roscrea.

Hazelwood College: 3-15

Doon CBS:               2-9

Hazelwood College had an impressive victory over last  years Harty Cup Semi Finalists, Doon CBs in Doon last week. Hazelwoods ability to score goals when needed as well as tough disciplined defending saw them through quite comfortably in the end with a nine point margin between the teams. The first 15 minutes was a ding dong affair with both sides exchanging points, Jamie Coughlan pointing three times from his full forward position and Henry O’Gorman who was excellent all day adding another from his midfield position. The game began to swing firmly in our favour at this point when Michael Brosnan nipped in for a goal, Jamie Coughlan added another point and Darren Lane netted again this time from a distance just before half time. This meant that at half time Hazelwood were leading by four points, 2-5 to 7 points. Hazelwood started the second half where they had left off in the first and rattled in 1-4 without reply in the first fifteen minutes. Jamie Coughlan firing over two points from play as well as finishing off an excellently taken goal. Michael Brosnan added another point as did young Jerry Lane who came on as half time sub. Hazelwood were cruising at this stage with an 11 point lead but took their foot off the pedal a little, conceding 2-1 in a five minute spell. All of a sudden it was once again a four point game. However, once the pressure was on Hazelwood responded, totally taking control for the last ten minutes scoring five points with out reply to run out comfortable winners. Next up for Hazelwood are Hospital in the semi-final where as Charleville CBS will take on Ard Scoil Ris in the other semi. In the meantime they will be playing Newport in the first round of the Munster Vocational Schools Competition.
