HAZELWOOD COLLEGE CLOCK UP 5-22 TO BEAT RATHKEALE in County Limerick VEC Colleges’ Senior Hurling Competition
Hazelwood College looked strong going into the match but were overcome when Rathkeale opened up the storing with a well taken point for from Damien O’ Donovan. As the Hazelwood boys settled in, their hard work paid off from a well-earned goal from Seán Fehin. From the beginning it was evident that Hazelwood were hungrier after a disappointing loss last time against Croom coming up short by one point. Hazelwood battled on and were well on top at half time on a score line of 4-12 to 0-05.
The second half had a different story to tell as Rathkeale staged a strong fightback. Hazelwood kept their heads and kept ahead with well-taken scores from Seamus Flanagan, John Walsh and Jack O’ Sullivan. The captain, Seán Flanagan, made sure the team stayed tuned in and kept the points ticking over. As the second half went on, Rathkeale maintained the pressure and, finally, their reward came with a good goal from Jack O’ Donoghue, from a mix up in the Hazelwood’s defence line. This didn’t dampen Hazelwood’s ambitions and the team rallied, to finish the game strong, scoring a total of 5-22. The final score finished up 5-22 to 1-07. Hazelwood’s Star Player, Seán Fehin scored a total of 2-02. Hazelwood College can start planning for the next day in the Co. Limerick VEC County Senior Hurling Competition.
