Munster Semi-Final Camogie
On Monday the 16th of December, Hazelwood College faced Christ the King’s Secondary School in the semi-final Munster Senior Camogie Competition. The team, managed by Ms. Anne-Marie McGann, got off to a great start with a Katie Coughlan point. Christ the King followed this by scoring a point to level things briefly, before going ahead with a goal. Despite this reversal, Hazelwood refused to be daunted and Rebecca Duggan and Marie Danaher scored a point each before Marie Danaher followed with a superb goal. Christ the King responded with a goal themselves, to take a one point lead. Hazelwood battled on as the half drew to an end. Orla Cunningham scored a valuable point to draw the teams level, while Cliona O’Callaghan kicked the ball over the bar twice just before half-time. Hazelwood ended the half with a two point lead.
At the start of the second half, Hazelwood faced a renewed Christ the King assault, as two points brought the teams level again. Kallie Hodgson, came on for Grainne Sheehy, just before Grainne Fitzgibbon scored a brilliant goal. This helped to establish Hazelwood’s lead, which they would hold until the final whistle. Due to the Christ the King resilience, several more substitutions were made with Laura Stack replacing Donna Mulcahy and Denise Forde came on for Grainne Fitzgibbon. The game continued to be a tit for tat affair, but with Hazelwood remaining in front. Cliona O’Callaghan’s magnificent towards the end of the game crowned a stunning achievement as the game ended 2:8 to 2:4 to Hazelwood College.
The team was: Amy Ryan, Aine Fitzgibbon, Caroline Watson, Chloe O’Brien, Emer Cunningham, Grainne Sheehy, Tara Fitzgibbon, Katie O’Sullivan, Donna Mulcahy, Katie Coughlan, Cliona O’Callaghan, Orla Cunningham, Rebecca Duggan, Marie Danaher and Grainne Fitzgibbon.
