Hazelwood College’s First Years’ First Adventure – Cappanalea 2012
Hazelwood College’s first year groups took time last week to participate in a week long induction course at Cappanalae Lakes and Activity Centre. Students were mixed into different groups and, under the guidance and supervision of Cappananlae staff, allowed to participate in activities such as hill walking, orienteering, kayaking and rock climbing. Students were totally immersed in the panoramic scenery of County Kerry, where they learned, in both activities and in non-activity time, to work together as groups and to make new friends.
Delicious meals were severed by Eileen and Kay, to feed students for the different activities. At night, students participated in different games, such as ‘manhunt’, where the C group emerged victorious. Students also played the spot game, where Dean Falvey collected the most spots. Students were always under the careful direction of staff at Cappanalae; safety instructions and equipment were thoroughly explained. Students learned about working together, in some cases groups learned the art of putting on a duvet cover!
