Hazelwood U18s through to Limerick B football final in nail biting clash
Report by Sarah Sheehan, TY.
This game was played on a lovely dry morning in Martinstown. Hazelwood got off to a strong start, with James Molyneaux, Jamie O Conner, Jack Pierce and Brian Ahern all scoring points in the 1st 10 minutes. In this period of dominance Scoil Pòl only scored once so that left the score line with Hazelwood ahead 4 points to 1 at the ten minute mark. The rest of the half was dominated by both defences. Scoil Pòl scoring twice more and Hazelwood scored through Jamie O Connor. This meant the score at half time was Hazelwood 0-5 Scoil Pòl 0-3.
Scoil Pòl raced out of the blocks in the second half and within 3 minutes the score was 0-5 a piece. Once again, however, Hazelwood wrestled back control of the game, dominating the next 20 minutes scoring 2-3.Brian Ahern leading the way with 1-2,Killian Shine scored a super goal and Ronan Cahill chipping in with a point. All of this good work was undone however in a minute period starting on the 54th minute, with Scoil Pòl laying the Hazelwood goal scoring 1-3 of their own,to level it up in injury time.
Hazelwood managed to break out of their half for the first time in 10 mins and Jamie O Connor popped up with a great winning point. Much to the relief of Hazelwood, the final whistle blew shortly after. Hazelwood now play the winners of Desmond College and Copsewood, Pallaskenry in the final next Friday the 15th in Rathkeale.
